When I see images of The Peanuts characters popping up in ads as the holidays nears, I wax nostalgic through childhood holiday memories. A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story on television which would air once. So if you missed it, you had to wait until the following year. Sigh.
One memory closer to home was The Peanuts play, presented by Mr. Moore’s 5th grade class. Our elementary school of arts had an annual holiday performance. My brother had a role. I watched from the back of the auditorium as he dragged his ragged blanket across the stage. His hair a mess. I stood up on my tip-toes to watch. He had three lines that were barely audible from the back of the room. Nevertheless, I was ever so happy that my big brother was apart of the show. I bragged to all my friends as if he played Charlie Brown. So proud.
Forever I will see him as Pig Pen – especially this time of year. Speaking of Charlie Brown, Knott’s is kicking off Merry Farm next week! A great place to make holiday memories with the kids…
